Confirmed COVID-19 cases rise to 273 in Afghanistan

A total of 19 more confirmed COVID-19 cases have been reported in Afghanistan over the past 24 hours, bringing the number of the patients carrying the disease to 273, Public Health Ministry spokesman Wahidullah Mayar said Friday.

 

According to the official, 15 new positive cases including 11 men and four women were confirmed in Herat province, the epicenter of the disease bordering Iran and the remaining four others were detected in other provinces.

 

However, Mayar admitted that the number of COVID-19 affected patients in the capital city Kabul had reached 14.

 

Six patients have died since the outbreak in mid February and 10 others have recovered, according to the official.

 

To contain the disease, the government has put big cities including Kabul and Herat in a three-week quarantine, calling on the people to remain at home.
