Madaung River Water Pumping Project 90 % completed

Kyunhla 6 July

Construction of Madaung River Water Pumping Project in Kyunhla Township, Sagaing Region is about 90 percent completed, according to the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department.

Construction of the project began in the previous fiscal year and it is slated for completion in the current financial year. Water canals including the main canal have been built and arrangements are being made to distribute water to farmlands if water level of Than Phan Seik Dam reaches 532 ft., said an official from the department.

“I have nine acres of farmland. We once relied on rainwater for cultivation so we suffer financial losses due to low yield if we faced drought. We would be able to cultivate crops in all seasons if the river water pumping project is completed,” said U Hsal Maung, a farmer from Madaung Village.

The project is being built by a private construction company with over K 1401 million allocated by the local government. Upon completion of the project, it would reportedly benefit about 750 acres of farmland.—Myo Win Nyo (Kyunhla)
