The Myanmar International Terminals Thilawa is now ready to handle 10-metre-draught vessels after improving the waterway of Yangon River, according to the Myanmar Port Authority.
“Since July 1, as the waterway of the Yangon River has improved, 9 to 9.5-metre-draught vessels were able to dock at Thilawa port area. On November 15, the 10.5-metre-draught vessels were able to dock, and from December, the 10-metre-draught vessels will be allowed to dock,” said U Win Myint Aung, Harbour Master of the Myanmar Port Authority.
The length of the ship from 210 to 220 metres will be allowed to reach the Thilawa terminal area and it is reported that the 272-metre long LNG gas tanker, the heaviest deadweight tonnage in Myanmar’s port history, could dock at the port yesterday.
The ports in Yangon allow only 190 to 200 metres long vessels with the weights of 15,000 to 20,000 tonnes. However, vessels over 200-metre long are arriving at MITT in transporting 30,000 tonnes of goods.—Myit Maung Kyaw(Translated by Ei Phyu Phyu Aung)
