MoC celebrates 135th anniversary of its Public Works Department

THE Ministry of Construction held a ceremony to mark 135th anniversary of the Public Works Department in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday following the COVID-19 health rules.

 

First, Deputy Minister U Min Htein, Director-General U Wunna Zaw and Deputy Director-General (retired) U Myint Oo of the Department of Rural Road Development cut the ribbon to open the Research Development Centre of the Department of Rural Road Development in Ottara District of Nay Pyi Taw.

 

Then, Union Minister U Shwe Lay, Permanent Secretary (retired) U Win Tint and Director-General (retired) U Khin Thet of the Department of Rural Road Development pressed the bottom to inaugurate the centre and sprinkled scented water on the inscription and inspected the use of Tensile Machine, Concrete Room and Soil Lab.

 

Then, Union Minister U Shwe Lay, Director-General U Win Pe (retired) and the Director-General U Ohn Lwin (retired) of the Road Department also pressed the button to open the road paving materials quality testing lab and examined the practical session of the lab.

 

The Union minister also inaugurated the library signboard of the ministry. He inspected the displayed various types of books including engineering and other literacy in the library.

 

During the second session of the ceremony, Union Minister U Shwe Lay highlighted the opening of the Research & Development Centre of the Department of Rural Road Development in Nay Pyi Taw Council, road paving materials quality testing lab of the Road Department and library of the ministry to mark the 135th anniversary of Public Works Department and awarding the outstanding employees.

 

He also talked about the long history of ministry and the duties of staff officers/employees to serve to be a reliable ministry for the country and to grab the trust of the public in the coming years.

 

Then, Deputy minister U Min Htein clarified the activities of the ministry.

 

Union Minister U Shwe Lay gave awards to a second prize winner in CICS (Upper Myanmar) and outstanding departmental staff.

 

Then, the deputy minister and other officials presented the certificates of honour to the winners of the paper-reading session on technology from regions/states and another 34 resource persons of the departments concerned.

 

After that, the history of the Public Works Department, activities and progress of the Ministry of Union Government Office and the five departments under the ministry were presented via video clip.

 

The Union minister and party inspected the photo records and structural models of the Building, Road, Bridges, Urban and Housing Development Departments. — MNA
