UNION Minister for Health Professor Dr Thet Khine Win inspected the General Specialty Hospital (500-bed) in Yangon yesterday afternoon.
During the inspection, the Union Minister cordially met with the medical superintendent, medical specialists, doctors and nurses and urged them to make effort to provide healthcare services to the people. Although some hospitals are able to provide treatment, the treatment is still weak while some township hospitals provide surgery, childbirth and treatment by only one doctor, in addition to public health services, he said.
He said arrangements will be made to send specialists to India under various disciplines as liver and kidney transplant scholars under the national programme.
He urged them to make effort to resume liver and kidney transplants as soon as possible.
In the evening, the Union Minister and party arrived at the North Okkalapa General Hospital and inspected the intensive care unit designed to treat critically ill patients with COVID-19, wards, emergency and outpatient departments and the radiology department. After coordinating as necessities during the inspection, the Union Minister met with the medical superintendent, specialists, doctors and nurses.
The North Okkalapa General Hospital is admitting the largest number of patients among the central level hospitals, with a total number of about 500 inpatients.
As the hospital is a teaching hospital, academic activities will be resumed for the final year of Part (B), regular and follow-up classes, he said. The doctors, nurses and technicians wishing to return to work are being welcomed and it would be very beneficial for the people if health workers who were away from the workplace return to their respective workplaces, he said.—MNA
