MoI minister gives video speech to copyright webinar on literary works

Union Minister for Information Dr Pe Myint delivered his video speech to the ‘Overview of Copyright and Related Rights in Myanmar Webinar’ on 29 November evening. In his speech, the Union Minister emphasized the importance of awareness programme for literary copyrights and broader aspect of the related rights for the writers whose artistic creations are used in movies, e-books and so on.

 

He also remarked that although writers and artists are fully devoted to their artistic works, they have a lesser interest in copyright issues, court cases, legal problems, monetary affairs, and they even hesitate to learn about these matters, causing considerable losses for them.

 

The Union Minister pointed out more complicated issues in digital and online media than those of mainstream media platforms in legal and ownership issues which are also concerned with foreign firms.

 

He continued to say about the works of the committee on formation of the Collective Management Organization of literary copyright, the assistance of Information and Public Relations Department to the committee which has been tasked with three fundamental duties of formation, raising copyright awareness and problem-solving during their interim period. Writer Sayar Chit Oo Nyo, the chairman of formation committee, extended greeting at the webinar, followed by screening a video clip for raising copyright awareness.

 

Writer Sayar U Than Maung (Sittway), the member of the committee, discussed the brief notes on ‘Literature and Art Copyright Law (2019), followed by the panel discussion of committee members. The panellists replied to the questions of online participants at the webinar.—MNA
