Sagaing region is planning to cultivate 375,000 acres of summer paddy in the financial year 2020-2021, said Dr Tin Mar Mar Oo, the head of the Sagaing Region Agriculture Department.
This FY, summer paddy will be grown on 10,127 acres of land in three townships of Sagaing district, 5,000 acres in four townships in Monywa district, 3,360 acres in four townships in Yinmabin district, 269,329 acres in six townships and one town in Shwebo district, 33,000 acres in two townships in Kanbalu district, 30,000 acres in seven townships in Katha district, 3,700 acres in three townships in Kalay district, 9,275 acres in two townships in Mawlaik district, 50 acres in one township and two branch townships in Tamu district and 11,159 acres in two townships in Kani district.
“Last year, only over 60,000 acres of summer paddy was grown because of the shortage of irrigated water from Thaphanseik Dam supplied for summer farmland. In this summer paddy farming season, the Department of Irrigation and Agriculture will coordinate to be able to use the irrigation water efficiently,” she confirmed.
Sagaing Region cultivated 369,490 acres of summer paddy in 2018-2019FY and 62,918 acres in 2019-2020FY, according to the official statistics of the Sagaing Region Agriculture Department.
