International  Anti-Corruption Day held Mandalay

Mandalay, December 12 
    

A ceremony to mark International Anti-Corruption Day was held at the town hall in central Myanmar’s Mandalay city this morning. First, Mandalay region Electric Power and Construction Minister U Zar Ni Aung read out the message sent by the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Then, U Aung Than Myint, member of Myanmar’s Anti-Corruption Commission elaborated on the basic concepts of anti-corruption and works being carried out by the commission. 
    

Then, a video clip of Anti-Corruption Day, produced by UNDP, was shown to the audience. Afterwards, officials presented awards to schoolchildren who won prizes in role play, poem reciting, and essay competitions for primary, secondary, high school level students. After watching a performance given by prize-winning schoolchildren, officials posed for a documentary photograph together with them.
    

Also present at the ceremony were cabinet members of Mandalay region government, Mandalay Region Hluttaw Deputy Chairman Dr. Khin Maung Htay and Hluttaw representatives, Consul General of India in Mandalay, members of Myanmar’s Anti-Corruption Commission (Mandalay Branch), departmental heads at regional/ district/ township level, teachers, schoolchildren, town elders and invited guests. 


Myanmar enacted Anti-Corruption Law on 17th September, 2013 and established Anti-Corruption Commission on 25th February, 2014. The commission introduced its bylaw on 10th July, 2015.—Than Zaw Min
