Marle Nattaung Dam to irrigate over 800 acres in Singu Tsp in summer

Singu Township’s Marle Nattaung Dam will supply water to more than 800 acres of summer crops in the first week of February as the maintenance works at the reservoir was completed, according to U San Min Tun, Assistant Director of Mandalay Region Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department. The present volume of water in the reservoir is 17,080 acre-feet – 7,410 acre-feet of fixed water and 9,670 acre-feet of available water for distribution. One acre-foot of water equals about 326,000 gallons.

A total of 865 acres of summer crops — 765 acres of paddy and 100 acres of sesame — will be irrigated from the dam this financial year, and monsoon crops in 2021-2022 financial year will also be supplied water from the water source.

“Upgrading works were conducted at the Marle Nattaung Dam to supply water for farmers. Sufficiency of irrigation water depends on the rain. The irrigation water will be supplied to summer crops”, he said. “Farmers need to use the irrigation water effectively so that the water is helpful for them.

Water will be irrigated not only for summer crops but also for monsoon crops”, he added.

A total of 6,500 acres farmland in the catchment area of the dam will get sufficient irrigation from the dam. The villages of Marle, Nattaung, Letpan Hla, Waryonegon, Shaukpinyoe, Kyule, Kuko, Singu (2), Ngwe Taung and Minywa will also get sufficient water from the dam. Marle Nattaung dam is located near Marle Village in Singu Township, PyinOoLwin District in Mandalay Region. Seldawgyi Dam in Madaya Township will also supply water to 67,053 acres of summer paddy and 295 acres of sesame in Mandalay this financial year.
