Four soldiers shot dead by drunkard colleague

A drunkard soldier from Border Guard Force who shot his four colleagues and a civilian before making away with a M-16 rifle was reported to be shot dead this morning near Atwinn Mekanal village in Myawady Township, Kayin State.

Private Saw Pe Pe, 23, from Border Guard Force-1021 stationed in 901-compound on Aung Zeya road in Ywathit village, Thin Gan Nyi Naung village-tract, Myawady township shot Sergeant Ta Et Thu, Corporal Saw Thar Kwar, Lieutenant Corporal Myat Htwe and Private Aung Paing who were on security duty together with him at about 8:45 pm on 1 January. Fleeing the scene, the assailant shot Nyi Nyi Hlaing, 32 before robbing off his motorbike and running away with a M-16 riffle.

The incident left four soldiers dead and Nyi Nyi Hlaing, a civilian seriously injured. The injured was transported to Myawady hospital.

Tatmadaw men, policemen and members of Border Guard Force in hot pursuit of the assailant shot him to dead near Atwinn Mekanal village in Myawady Township at about 11:00 am today.—Htein Lin Aung
