At least four policemen have been confirmed dead and 15 others including 10 civilians injured as a car bomb exploded next to a police base in Almar district of the northern Faryab province on Tuesday, provincial police spokesman Abdul Karim Yurash said.
According to Yurash, the militants detonated an explosive-laden car next to a police base early Tuesday and the blast was followed by gunfire which lasted for a while and as a result "four policemen were killed and 15 others including 10 civilians" injured.
The official, however, asserted that the Taliban fled the area after suffering casualties, but could not give an exact figure.
In the meantime, an official on the condition of anonymity claimed that 12 policemen and eight civilians were injured in the blast and the firefight lasted for a while.
This is the second vehicle bomb in insurgency-battered Afghanistan over the past two days.
A truck bomb that rocked Maiwand district in the southern Kandahar province on Monday claimed 14 lives and injured 49 others, according to officials.
