MoHT Union Minister joins Future of Tourism World Summit-Ministerial Debate online

UNION Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr Htay Aung joined the virtual “The Future of World Tourism Summit-Ministerial Debate” yesterday being conducted under The Future of Tourism World Summit programme jointly organized by the United Nations World Tourism Organization-UNWTO), the Advanced Leadership Foundation (ALF), the Chambers of Commerce INCYDE Foundation and Municipal and Regional Administration of Barcelona.

During the meeting, UNWTO Secretary-General Mr Zurab Pololikashvili and Secretary-General Mr Juan Carlos Salazar of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) respectively made opening speeches.

Then, the tourism ministers of 18 countries continued the meeting under the topic of UNWTO Ministerial Debate: The Future of Tourism for People, Planet, Prosperity.

During “The Future of Tourism-Ministerial Debate”, the Union Minister discussed the use of technology in the tourism sector, the drive of the Internet of the Things (IoT), innovative techniques for tourism business people and travellers and implementation of the COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan (CERP).

He also highlighted the draft of the Myanmar Tourism Strategic Recovery Roadmap (MTSRR), the first priority to create job opportunities in reviving the tourism sector and digital transformation.

Then, the leaders continued the Towards NetZero Tourism for Planet regeneration: High-Level Roundtable Funding the Future of Tourism: High-Level Debate, Digitalization & Smart Destinations.

Moreover, the leaders will also discuss the investment in human resources for the tourism sector, strategic communication and other related matters during the Summit on 27 October, and issue the Barcelona Call to Action under the topic of Towards a New Agenda for Tourism: For People, Planet and Prosperity.

More than 80 participants of 70 countries, officials of UNWTO member countries, partner organizations and Myanmar delegation led by the Union Minister joined the event. — MNA
