46.88 tonnes of illegal timbers confiscated in a week

Forest Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation is implementing various methods including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS) to detect and seize illegal timbers and forest products in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, the states and regions in Myanmar in collaboration with the public.

 

According to the statistics sent by Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, the State and Regional Forest Departments, 46.88 tonnes of illegal timbers including 15.80 tonnes of illegal teaks, 8.68 tonnes of hardwood, 22.39 tonnes of other types of wood and five vehicles were seized and 14 culprits were arrested from January 8 to 14 in 2024 across the country, according to the Forest Department.—(MNA)
