9th anniversary of Khami National Day to be celebrated in Sittway

The 9th anniversary of Khami National Day will be celebrated on a grand scale at Khaymar Mandaing Monastery on Sittway, Rakhine State on 27 April.

The Khami National Day has been designated since 27 April 1972. The purpose of the event is to preserve traditional cultural heritage and customs of Khami ethnic people by new generation, said Chairman of Khami Literature and Culture Committee U Lay Aung.

Khami National Day is annually held in the townships in Rakhine State where Khami ethnic people had been residing since time immemorial. The celebrations were held on a rotational basis and there are over 80,000 Khami ethnic people in Rakhine State. The attendees to the Khami National Day will be entertained with dance and songs by Khami cultural troupes. 

The similar event is scheduled to be held at a hall in Ward-21, Shwepyitha Township, Yangon Region on 28 April.—Ni Tun Aung (IPRD)
