ASEAN, Plus 3 organize 20th Agriculture, Forestry Ministers’ Meeting online

The 20th Meeting of Agriculture and Forestry Ministers of ASEAN and the Plus 3 countries was held virtually on 21 October.


Cambodian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Mr Veng Sakhon presided over the meeting participated by agriculture and forestry ministers of ASEAN countries, the People’s Republic of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea.


Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Aung Thu expressed thanks to Japan Government for donating a total of 302 metric tons of rice and ROK for donation of 600 tonnes of rice to Myanmar under Programme III of ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve.


The meeting discussed matters relating to food security, food safety and healthy nutrition amid COVID-19, smooth trading and ensuring food security and food reserves of ASEAN and the Plus 3 countries, cooperation on ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve, and ways of response to COVID-19.


They detailed about the projects being implemented under Strategic Plan for ASEAN Cooperation on Food, Agriculture and Forestry (2016-2025), discussing the provision of rice under Programme III of ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve, two projects on climate change, assistance for ASEAN Action Plan on Fall Armyworm 2020-2025, Japan’s technical assistance in accordance with capacity building project, Plus Three’s technical and financial assistance to ASEAN for the development of agriculture, livestock, fisheries and forestry sectors.


They talked over the research proposal on the use of ERIA’s cold chain development and digital technologies for producing value-added agricultural products, and also approved a joint declaration.


The 21st Meeting of Agriculture and Forestry Ministers of ASEAN and the Plus 3 countries will be held in Bandung of West Java in Indonesia.
