According to the Department of Archaeology and National Museums (Bagan Branch), habitual plants growing on the stupas and temples with high historical and architectural value in the Bagan Archaeological Zone are being cleaned and removed with chemicals.
The Bagan Heritage Trust team and the Department of Archaeology and National Museums (Bagan Branch) have been carrying out a chemical clean-up of the plants growing on the ancient buildings in Bagan since mid-October.
“Our department and the Bagan Heritage Trust (BHT) are continuously cooperating in preservation activities to ensure the sustainability of the cultural heritage in the Bagan World Heritage Area. Currently, we are conducting emergency response to the natural disasters in Bagan. In the process of removing the vegetation on the stupas with chemicals, we are cooperating with BHT along with the staff of the laboratory department,” said U Kyaw Myo Win, Director of the Department of Archaeology and National Museums (Bagan Branch). The BHT group is also planning to carry out the clearing of plants growing on the pagodas in the Bagan area in cooperation with the Department of Archaeology and National Museum (Bagan Branch) every month.
According to the current requirements, the upper part of the stupas where the doors are placed is also regularly monitored. — ASH/KZL
