Among imported commodities, Chinese potato prices are falling while Kyukok garlic prices become high starting 11 November, Ko Thein Lwin, a seller of potatoes and onions from Yetama Street at Bayintnaung Brokerage in Yangon told The Global New Light of Myanmar (GNLM).
On 11 November, 50,000 visses of Chinese potato entered the market at a wholesale price of K3,500, down from K3,800 on 10 November. The quantity of potatoes that were brought to the market affected the prices, which varied till 11 November.
Before Kyukok garlic prices arranged between K16,000 and K17,000 per viss and Shan Aungpan garlic prices to between K12,000 and K15,000 per viss on 3 November, the prices of Chinese potatoes, Kyukok garlic, and Shan Aungpan garlic were K1,700, K7,800, and between K8,400 and K9,800 respectively on 26 October. The price of Kyukok garlic stood at between K15,000 and K15,500 on 11 November while the prices of Shan Aungpan garlic had been between K11,000 and K12,500 during the period of 4 to 11 November.
On 11 November, the price range for Kyukok garlic was K15,000 to K15,500 per viss, but the price for Shan Aungpan garlic ranged between K11,000 and K12,500 from 4 to 11 November. Despite the higher prices, the demand for garlic is not high as consumption of garlic in Myanmar cooking recipes is normally low. — TWA/TH
