Confiscation of illegal items: Timbers, lead, animals, foodstuffs, consumer goods, industrial materials and vehicles

The combined teams under the supervision of the Ayeyawady Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force impounded an unregistered Toyota Wish car (estimated value of K9 million) at the Koezu checkpoint on the outskirts of Pathein township and a total of 1.208 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K604,450 in Pathein district on 20 October, the action was taken under the Export and Import Law and Forest Law.

The on-duty teams captured an unregistered Honda Wave car (estimated value of K1 million) in Kawthoung township, 6,360 kilogrammes of illegal lead worth K190.8 million in Bokpyin township on 20 October and an unregistered Kobelco excavator and an unregistered CASE excavator (approximately worth K66 million) that were used in the illegal gold mining in Bhamo township on 21 October. The action was taken under the Export and Import Law and the Myanmar Mines Law.

On 21 October, the on-duty teams nabbed a Zhong Tong express (approximately worth K40 million), headed to Yangon from Hpa-an, carrying three kinds of goods worth K3.865 million, including 128,000 kilogrammes of 108 grammes of detergent powder without official documents, at the Thanlwin Bridge (Tayokhla) and a Nissan Condor vehicle (estimated value of K25 million), travelling from Myawady to Mandalay, carrying 180 Kashiwa cooking pans (red) without official documents at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) combined checkpoint. The action was taken under Customs procedures. The combined teams made inspections on 22 October and confiscated an Isuzu truck (estimated value of K26 million) carrying eight oxen worth K4.8 million without official documents at the Milepost 51/52 on Yangon-Pyay road in Taikkyi township, an Isuzu Giga truck (estimated value of K40 million), headed to Mandalay from Muse, carrying 200 lawnmowers worth K14 million that exceeded the quantity mentioned in the Import Declaration (ID) at the Milepost 21/5 on Muse-Mandalay road and 10,080 ownerless bottles of Justus black beer, 14,400 bottles of hand and body lotion and 960 bags of crackers (with Chinese label) worth K35.04 million at the Milepost 22/1 on PyinOoLwin-Mandalay road. The action was taken under Customs procedures.

The combined team seized a Higer bus (approximately K30 million), travelling from Mawlamyine to Yangon, carrying 2,000 litres of vegetable oil worth K16.1 million without official documents at the Nyaungkhashay X-Ray station on 23 October. The action was taken under Customs procedures. A total of 17 arrests were made on four consecutive days from 20 to 23 October, with an estimated value of K507,609,450, as reported by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. — MNA/MKKS
