COVID-19 National committee receives cash assistance

Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr Myint Htwe, in his capacity as the Secretary of National-Level Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19, received cash donation at his office in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon.


After congratulating to the health workers and volunteers who work hard in COVID-19 medical centres, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations U Thaung Tun explained the reason of donation. He said that the cash assistance is contributed by the staff from his ministry and that he is also coordinating with representatives from the MoHS and other ministries to make the necessary purchase of medicines and medical supplies as soon as possible.


Permanent Secretary from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture U Tun Ohn explained their second donation from his ministry for COVID-19 activities. He mentioned the establishment of temporary quarantine centres at the religious buildings and COVID-19 treatment centre in the National University of Arts and Culture.


The Permanent Secretary continued that his ministry has submitted the name list of 41 employees who wish to volunteer in the COVID-19 control and prevention activities and he expressed words of thanks for the medical care to the COVID-19 infected monks and nuns.


Union Minister Dr Myint Htwe replied that the MoHS could buy necessary medicines and medical equipment with the assistance of the committee. He continued that there are 14 new COVID-19 treatment centres for about 9,700 patients with the support of donors and Yangon Region government at the beginning of COVID-19 second wave in Yangon and the awareness campaign on prevention the disease in crowded areas such as market, monastery and nunnery by cooperating with respective authorities and social organizations.


The Union Minister highlighted the stay-at-home programme and social distancing lifestyle for senior citizens and people with chronic disease and to participate in the COVID-19 measures to effectively contain the disease.


At the donation ceremony, officers and staff of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Relations donated K3,449,000; officers and staff of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture donated K10,000,000; officers and staff of the Department of Sport and Physical Education K1,900,000; staff of education department K1,500,000; Director U Khin Zaw and staff of Irrigation Department K1,000,000 and Director of Thuwunna Pada Co., Ltd U Khin Maung Oo K500,000.
