The Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control’s Public Awareness Committee held a coordination meeting at the Ministry of Information in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Chairman of the Committee, and Deputy Minister for Information U Aung Hla Tun, said there are 11 committees under the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control. Out of the committees, the Public Awareness Committee tasked with 19 works consists of 12 members.
The Ministry of Information is taking a focal role for the committee that held two meetings in previous year, and most of the resolutions made at the two meetings had been implemented, he added.
The chairman continued that the meeting is to develop a plan for effective implementation of the 19 works and urged the committee’s members to make suggestions for ongoing processes.
U Ye Naing, Secretary of the Public Awareness Committee and Director-General of Information and Public Relations Department, explained the committee’s works in 2019, and future tasks to be implemented in 2020.
Attendees at the meeting also discussed conditions and ways for conducting public awareness campaigns for drug control.
In his conclusion speech, U Aung Hla Tun said that drug crimes are a threat to national security and drug education programmes cannot be organized by an individual and a single organization.
Therefore, it is important to promote cooperation between relevant departments, local and foreign partner organizations, private organizations, State-owned media and private media, he added.
He also stressed the importance of seeking best possible ways for implementing preventive education, treatment and rehabilitation programmes for drug control.
The meeting was attended by officials from Ministry of Information, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and Sports, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, General Administration Department, Police Drug Enforcement Division, Myanmar Anti-Narcotics Association (MANA), Myanmar Journalists Association, Forever Group Co.
