Filling station fire causes over Ks. 17 million losses

No one was injured in a fire at a filling station in Monywa City, Sagaing Region yesterday evening.

The fire broke out at the petrol station named “Swan Yi Htet” beside the Union Highway in Myothit Ward, Monywa when loading and unloading gasoline barrels with the use of iron rods at around 6:35 p.m. on 17 February. A group of local firefighters led by Assistant Director of the Fire Services Department together with policemen, and residents rushed to the scene of the fire by using 18 fire engines and 8 water tankers. Firemen took about 45 minutes to completely extinguish the flame.

 

The blaze torched 21 barrels of diesel, one concrete facility and one building worth more than Ks. 17.1 million. Action is being taken against the owner of the filling station over fire negligence by the local police station.—Win Oo (Zeyar Tine)
