Myanmar’s first ever Emergency Medical Services training center was inaugurated at Zabuthiri Township Hospital in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Union Minister Dr. Myint Htwe said the emergency medical services training center will produce emergency responders for emergency health problems and accident victims, expressing his thanks to those who had strived toward establishing the centre.
America based Suu Foundation and Hong Kong based Prudence Foundation would jointly provide teaching at the center. Myanmar has a huge number of people who were injured in road and traffic accidents and other emergency mishaps and it is important to conduct emergency first-aid on the spot and to systematically transport the victims to hospital.
According to 2016 figures, 24 per cent of such victims arrived to hospital by ambulances and the ministry bought 55 more ambulances in 2017.
Not only will the teachers of the center teach but advices from the attendees will be requested to make the curriculum and teaching system more effective, said the Union minister.
Discussions will be held with experts to establish additional EMS Training Centers in Yangon and Mandalay regions.
As it is important to coordinate the first aid and emergency live saving works, emphasis must be made toward establishing a National Ambulance Network by including ambulances from civil society organizations, charity and philanthropic organizations.
Union Minister Dr. Myint Htwe also urged the Medical Universities to conduct more courses on first aid and emergency live saving than the present. Certificates will be presented to those who finish a course in this training center and arrangements are being made to conduct refresher courses said the Union Minister.
University of Medicine 1 Rector Professor Dr. Zaw Wai Soe then explained about how the training center came about and what training courses will be conducted at the center.
Department of Human Resource for Health Director-General Dr. Tin Tin Lay, Department of Food and Drug Administration Director-General Prof. Dr. Khin Zaw and University of Medicine 1 Rector Professor Dr. Zaw Wai Soe cut the ceremonial ribbon to open the training center.
The signboard of the training center was unveiled by Union Minister Dr. Myint Htwe, Deputy Minister Dr. Mya Lay Sein, Nay Pyi Taw Council member U Tin Tun and Department of Public Health and Medical Services acting Director-General Dr. Soe Oo.
