Five boats with illegal timber seized in Budalin

Five boats loaded with illegal timber were seized in Chindwin river in Budalin Township, Sagaing Region yesterday, according to the Township Forest Department.

A joint contingent of departmental officials, police and local people led by deputy Township administrator U Kyaw Min Than searched a boat carrying coal and seized illegal timber hidden under the coal. On conducting further search, the authorities managed to confiscate more illegal timber from another four boats.

Four boats were anchored at the quayside of Shwe-Sayae village while one boat was half sunk at the quayside of Nyaung-Thu-Myar village. All boats were expected to sail from Kani Township to Monywa. The authorities are trying to retrieve the timber. 

Action is taken against U Kyaw Aung Tun, of Kalaywa town, who got involved in the illegal business, according to the law.— Township IPRD
