Flood death toll rises to 19 as 6.36 million people affected in India's Bihar state

With six more deaths reported, the death toll in the flood in india's eastern Bihar state rose to 19 on Tuesday, as 6.36 million people were affected in 16 districts, according to a bulletin of the state disaster management authority.

 

Four fresh deaths were reported from Muzaffarpur district while two others came from Siwan district in the last 24 hours, the bulletin of State Disaster Management Department said.

 

The number of inundated villages rose to 1,152 from 1,082 Monday, the bulletin said, adding that Darbhanga and Muzaffarpur are the worst-hit districts with 1.86 million and 1.36 million affected respectively.

 

A total of 20 teams of National Disaster Response Force and 13 teams of State Disaster Response Force are involved in the rescue operations during which 440,000 people have been evacuated so far, it added.
