Global coronavirus cases approach 43 million

Data tallied by a US university shows the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infections worldwide has reached nearly 43 million.


Johns Hopkins University says the global total of infections was 42,829,950 as of 18:00 UTC on Sunday.


The United States has the most cases at 8,602,872, followed by India at 7,864,811, Brazil at 5,380,635, Russia at 1,503,652, and France at 1,130,081.


The university says the global death toll from the virus grew to 1,152,054.


The US has the most deaths at 225,061, followed by Brazil at 156,903, India at 118,534, Mexico at 88,743, and the United Kingdom at 44,986.
