India COVID-19 death toll rises to 35 as total cases reach 1,397

The death toll of COVID-19 in India Tuesday evening rose to 35 as the number of confirmed cases in the country reached 1,397, the federal health ministry said.

 

"Until 8:30 p.m. (local time) today, death toll related to novel coronavirus has reached 35," reads the information released by the ministry.

 

According to ministry officials, so far 124 people have been discharged from hospitals after showing improvement.

 

"The number of active cases in the country right now is 1,238," reads the information.

 

Kerala state has reported 234 cases of novel coronavirus, the highest so far, followed by Maharashtra which has 216 cases.

 

The previous update from the ministry put the number of COVID-19 cases in the country at 1,251 and the death toll was 32.

 

Tuesday marks the seventh straight day of ongoing 21-day lockdown across the country announced by the government to contain the spread of the pandemic. Authorities have imposed strict curfew-like restrictions to prevent the movement of people across the country.

 

All road, rail and air services have been suspended in wake of the lockdown, except essential services which are exempted.
