Landslide kills 25 in east Afghanistan

At least 25 people were killed and 10 others injured as a landslide struck a village in east Afghanistan's Nuristan province on Sunday, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported Monday.

The natural disaster took place in the wake of heavy rain in Norgaram district on Sunday night, the report said.

At least 20 houses were destroyed or badly damaged, and five bodies have been recovered, it added.

Locals believed that the number of casualties could be higher as rescue operations have been continuing.

Parts of Afghanistan, including the capital city Kabul, have been experiencing rain and snowfall since Sunday afternoon.
