At least 20 injured in California quake

Police and fire officials say at least 20 people have sustained minor injuries in an earthquake that hit the US state of California on Thursday.

 

The magnitude 6.4 quake struck about 200 kilometers northeast of Los Angeles at around 10:30 a.m.A sustained tremor was felt in the city of Santa Monica.

 

Local media said the quake had caused fires and damage to buildings. A local fire department says some people were injured.

 

They say the quake broke water pipes and cracked building walls in suburbs of Los Angeles.

 

Los Angeles International Airport tweeted that all its runways have been inspected with no reported damage and that operations remain normal.
