Mini marathon to be held in Mandalay on 4 January

The Mandalay Mayor’s Mini Marathon 2020 will be held on 4 January in Mandalay to mark Myanmar’s 72nd Independence Day, according to the Mandalay City Development Committee (MCDC).

The contest will include men’s and women’s open and amateur events. The marathon will start at 6:30 am from the MCDC office, located at the corner of 26 and 71 streets. The participants will pass through 26 street, 80 street, 12 street, 73 street, North Mandalay mountain roundabout, 10 street, 62 street, Ngushwewah street, 68 street, Mandalar Thiri sports ground, and finish at the end of the Mandalar Thiri east entrance sports ground.

The mini marathon will be organized with the aim of promoting physical fitness among Mandalarians.

Prizes will be presented to outstanding athletes in the 13-mile marathon. The winner will be awarded K6 million, while the second place winner will get K4 million, and the third place winner will be given K3 million in both men’s and women’s open and amateur events.

Application forms would be available for K300 till 31 December between 9:30 am to 6:30 pm at the Township municipal administration office, garden and sports grounds department, Sports and Physical Education Department (Ba Htoo stadium), and MCDC office, according to the MCDC.

Foreigners would be allowed to participate only in the open events. Winners, who finished first, second, and third earlier in the 10,000-meters states and regions \ contest, the Mandalay mayor’s mini marathon, and the Yangon mayor’s mini marathon would be permitted to take part only in the open mini marathon events, according to the contest organizing committee.—Than Zaw Min (IPRD) (Translated by Hay Mar)
