Mini oil refinery starts test run in Taungtha, handles 30,000 gals of crude oil per day

Acting Chief Minister of Mandalay Region U Zarni Aung and Deputy Minister for Electricity and Energy Dr Tun Naing inspected the test run of a mini oil refinery of MCCM Co, Ltd near Kyawzi village, Taungtha Township in Mandalay Region yesterday morning.


First, the factory in-charge reported on the structure of the refinery and test run programmes and deputy factory manager Daw Phyu Phyu Aung of Myanma Petrochemical Enterprise (MPE) on the operations of the mini refinery and the technical assistance provided by the Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE) for the mini refinery of MCCM Co, Ltd. Managing Director of MOGE U Aung Myint also gave a report.


Deputy Minister Dr Tun Naing gave instructions on the production of different types of quality fuels in accordance with the set standards to have a competitive power, the prioritization of fire prevention and occupational safety programs, environmental protection, practicing of a systematic waste disposal system in accordance with the set procedures and implementation of corporate social responsibility, and observed the control and operations of the refinery.


The mini refinery is turning 30,000 gallons of crude oil derived from hand-drilled wells in the country into 4500 gallons of petrol 19,500 gallons of diesel and about 5400 gallons of fuel oil daily.


With the aim of generating social and economic benefits and job opportunities and providing fuel oil for agriculture and transport sectors at reasonable prices, the Ministry of Electricity and Energy has been issuing licenses in accordance with the rules and regulations for local refineries supplied by hand-drilled crude oil. The ministry has already issued the permits to 411 persons in Sagaing Region, three in Bago Region, two in Yangon Region, 17 in Ayeyawady Region and 45 in Mandalay Region totaling 478. Among them, the mini refinery of the MCCM Co, Ltd is the first one to conduct the test run. —MNA (Translated by TMT)
