Moderate earthquake hits near Thayet

No immediate reports of damages or casualties were reported following a moderate earthquake which was recorded this morning, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) announced.


An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter inside Myanmar jolted about 39 miles south-southeast of Thayet Township in Magway Region. It was recorded at 8:00 a.m. today at a latitude of 19.25°N, and longitude of 95.78°E, with a depth of 8 kilometers and about 43 miles south-southwest of the Nay Pyi Taw seismological observatory, said the DMH.
