Myanmar National Airlines landed at the Yangon International Airport yesterday afternoon, with 149 nationals from Changi International Airport of Singapore.
Among these returnees, 132 persons were from Singapore, and the remaining 17 persons from New Zealand, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, who were stranded in these countries due to suspension of international flights amid COVID-19 pandemic.
As they arrived in Yangon, officials from the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, the Ministry of Health and Sports, and the Yangon Region government helped for their 21-day quarantine period in line with the regulations of immigration and medical checks.
As per the directives of National-Level Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and in coordination with other relevant ministries in Myanmar and the Myanmar embassies in respective countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs arranged relief flights and chartered planes to bring back Myanmar people from foreign countries. A total of 3, 534 people have been repatriated to Myanmar to date, and the eighth repatriation flight will pick up more Myanmar nationals stuck abroad from the Changi International Airport on 18 June.—MNA (Translated by Aung Khin)
