Myanmar government donated 4,000 bags of rice to China’s Wuhan as humanitarian aid in the battle against the COVID-19 outbreak.
A ceremony to hand over the rice bags was held at the Shwepyitha Industrial Zone-4 in Yangon Region yesterday.
The 4,000 bags of rice weighing 200 tonnes is valued at K 86 million; they were packed in 120g P.P bags; and the Ministry of Commerce will transport them with six lorries to the China-Myanmar border.
U Aung Htoo, Deputy Minister for Ministry of Commerce, handed over the rice bags, and documents including certificates of testing rice for pest, aflatoxins, and chemicals; and Chinese Ambassador Mr Chen Hai accepted them, and returned certificates of honour.
Deputy Director-General of the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs U Zaw Tun Oo explained the purpose of donating rice to China.
Since December 2019 when the COVID-19 outbreak occurred in China, its Hubei Province’s Wuhan region was imposed a lockdown.
The donation is aimed at fulfilling the food requirement of the people in Wuhan.—Zaw Gyi (Translated by Kyaw Zin Tun)
