Opening ceremony of a voter registration training course jointly organized by Union Election Commission (UEC) and Election Commission of India was held at UEC Office training room yesterday morning. The event was attended by UEC Chairman U Hla Thein and members, India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management school Senior Consultant Dr. Noor Mohammad and trainers, officials from commission office and trainees.
At the ceremony, UEC Chairman said the day’s course is jointly organized by UEC and Election Commission of India is one of the many programs to raise the capacity of staffs in commission office and all levels of sub-commissions. Election Commission of India will be conducting three such courses and this is the second one from 14 to 18 January. As Myanmar’s had just started walking down the path of democracy, not only the people but the staff from commission offices lack experience related to election and much knowledge need to be realized in this.
That is why much emphasis had been placed toward raising the capacity of the staff. Although there are many works in an election cycle, preparation of voters list is a very important work.
Course attendees are urged to learn much from the course. Study and learn the strengths and weaknesses of registering voter list in India and use it in the best way in our registration of voter list said the UEC Chairman. Next Dr. Noor Mohammad spoke about the importance of the process of registering voter list.
In addition to having sufficient budget to have a complete and correct voters list, good management of staffs is required as well as for the staff to be skilled in their works. Election Commission of India will be holding five courses in 2019 and this is the third course. The fourth will be conducted in India and the fifth will be in Myanmar. — MNA (Translated by Zaw Min)
