Myanmar joins roundtable meeting of IMF with Finance Ministers, Central Bank Governors of ASEAN

Central Bank of Myanmar Governor U Kyaw Kyaw Maung joined a roundtable meeting between the International Monetary Fund and the Finance Minsters and the Central Bank Governors of ASEAN member countries via videoconferencing yesterday morning.


The discussion was also participated by IMF Managing Director Mr Kristalina Georgieva, Deputy Minister for Planning, Finance and Industry U Maung Maung Win and Vice- Governor of CBM U Soe Thein.


The IMF Managing Director talked about the forecast of global economic growth at 4.4 per cent and ASEAN countries at 3.4 per cent amid uncertainty of economic development amid COVID-19 pandemic while the countries are making significant efforts in saving lives of human beings and implementing economic recovery plan.


She also discussed that IMF is providing financial and technical assistance, as well as policy advice to the member countries which need to adopt and implement their suitable version of Integrated Policy Framework.


She also asked for recommendations of the ASEAN finance ministers and the Central Bank governors, response activities of member countries to challenges and the pandemic and required assistance of IMF to the member countries.


IMF Economic Counselor and Research Department Director Ms Gita Gopinath discussed the topic of ‘Toward an Integrated Policy Frame Work: COVID-19 Responses and Fiscal Considerations’ in relations to monetary policy, FX Intervention, Capital Flow Management Measures, Macroprudential Measures, Integrated Policy Framework for the respective countries, and the important role global financial safety net.


The Finance Ministers and the Central Bank Governments exchanged their views before the concluding remark of the IMF Managing Director.
