Myanmar migrant workers back from Thailand

Nay Pyi Taw 19 February

Some Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand are returning home as they are not legitimate under Thailand’s Immigration Act which was amended recently, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced.

428 Myanmar migrant workers—328 men and 100 women—returned to the country through a migrant worker’s office in Myawady on 18 February via Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge No.1. The Myanmar authorities conducted search operations with the returnees in order to find out if they were bringing weapons, drugs and counterfeit money or if they had links with terrorist organizations.

Myanmar officials also provided necessary assistance to migrant workers to come back their homes in a safe and secure manner, the MOHA said.—MOHA
