Myanmar Paralympic sports team arrives back home

The Myanmar Para Sports Games stands in the 26th position by holding three bronze medals in the 4th Asian Para Games held in Hangzhou, China, from 19 to 28 October.

The Myanmar Para Sports Contingent took part in three sports events, securing three medals. These medals came from track and field events but athletes from swimming and sitting volleyball events failed to secure medals.

For the Myanmar team, Soe Pay bagged one bronze medal each in the men’s 200-metre T64 event and men’s 100-metre T64 event whereas Lawla Win won one bronze medal in the women’s 100-metre T63/64 event.

After the Asian Para Games, host China stood first with 214 gold, 167 silver and 140 bronze medals. The number of gold medals for the Chinese team exceeded more than 150 medals rather than the opponent teams.

Behind the Chinese team, Iran stood second with 44 gold, 46 silver and 41 bronze medals, followed by Japan in the third position with 42 gold, 49 silver and 59 bronze medals, South Korea in the fourth position with 30 gold, 33 silver and 40 bronze medals and India in the fifth position with 29 gold, 31 silver and 51 bronze medals.

The Games comprised more than 500 events of 22 sports with the participation of athletes from 44 countries. — Ko Nyi Lay/TTA
