Negligence fire makes 44 villagers homeless in Ponnagyun

44 people became homeless after a fire broke out in a village in Ponnagyun Township, Rakhine State on Sunday evening.
    

 

The fire is believed to have started from ember in a kitchen of a house of a villager identified as U Aung Shwe Thein, 47 years old from Yoetayoke Village at around 4 p.m. on 3 March. The blaze torched seven nearby houses, making 44 people from seven families homeless. Upon receiving information, a group of firefighters led by the commander of the township fire brigade U Zaw Than Tun rushed to the scene of the fire.
    

 

Firefighters together with villagers took about 50 minutes to completely extinguish the flame by using two fire engines and two water tankers. Fire victims are currently taking shelter at temporary relief camp in a monastery in the village.—Hla Baw Thu (IPRD)
