A new elephant camp will be opened as a tourist destination and a wildlife conservation centre on 9 February in Magway Region.
The opening of the camp, which is only three miles from the famous Shwesettaw Pagoda, will coincide with the inauguration day of the pagoda which enshrines the footprints of Buddha.
The eight-acre camp features bungalows, common rooms, messing halls, elephant houses plus a 700-acre grazing ground. Moreover, it has 120 acres of vacant and virgin land to build a public place and grow trees.
“Visitors will be able to ride elephants and rest at the camp, which aims to be a wildlife-based tourist destination. Moreover, we will have 11 bungalows equipped with all necessary facilities and a food stall run by camp staff,” said U Aung Ko Ko Htet, the deputy head of the camp.
Currently, the camp has seven elephants, and later the number will be increased to 15. It will have more than 30 staff, including supervisors, administrators, and a veterinary surgeon. Zeyatu (Magway) (Translated by TMT)
