Next FY to witness 2M tonnes of fertilizer, 35K tonnes of pesticide imports

According to the Urea Fer­tilizer Purchasing and Distri­bution Steering Committee, a total of two million tonnes of fertilizer and 35,000 tonnes of pesticides will be imported in the 2024-2025 financial year.

 

The committee has already acquired import licences and will distribute and sell the im­ported fertilizers and pesticides to farmers at affordable prices before the farming season.

 

A total of 4,900 tonnes of urea fertilizer and 21,000 tonnes of compound fertilizer will be supplied in 12 regions and states, including the Nay Pyi Taw Council area, during winter oil crops projects. In the spring paddy project, over 36,000 tonnes of urea and over 36,000 tonnes of compound fer­tilizer are set to be used for 720,000 acres of cultivation in six regions and states, includ­ing Nay Pyi Taw. Similarly, over 37,000 tonnes of urea and 37,000 tonnes of compound fertiliz­er will be used in more than 740,000 acres of plantation in 10 regions and states, including Nay Pyi Taw, in the monsoon paddy project. The projects will use financial support provided by the State Economic Promo­tion Fund.

 

The import permits for two million tonnes of fertilizers and 37,000 tonnes of pesticides have been approved in the current 2023-2024 financial year, accord­ing to the committee. — TWA/ MKKS
