One more virus case reported in Magway Region

Magway, 1 September

An official from the Department of Public Health confirmed a coronavirus positive case in Magway Township on September 1.

“I knew the test result at about 11:30 p.m. A 35-year old man from Hlaung Taw Oo Village tested positive for coronavirus,” Dr Khin Maung Than, Assistant Director of the Magway Region Department of Public Health. The virus positive patient earns his living as a driver and is believed to have been infected with the virus after transporting some construction workers to Kyauktaw and Ponnagyun Townships in Rakhine State.

“The virus-positive patient came back home on August 20 and he would be sent to Magway,” he added. Three drivers underwent coronavirus tests and he tested positive for the virus. People who had close contact with the virus-positive patient will be placed under observation, according to the DPH.

The man became the 4th coronavirus-positive patient in Magway Region. Three virus-positive patients from Myothit, Taungdwin and Thayet Townships tested negative for the coronavirus after medical check twice, health official added. Trucks from Rakhine State are currently allowed to enter Magway Region via Pyinwa checkpoint which is a major entry amid the rising worry about a recent surge in locally confirmed cases there.

A total of about 1,300 people including returnees from Rakhine State are put under observations at facility quarantine centers in Magway Region.
