Union Minister for International Cooperation U Kyaw Tin attended the Sixth Myanmar-EU Human Rights Dialogue which was held via videoconference at 1:00 pm on 14 October 2020 from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw. The Dialogue was co-chaired by U Kyaw Tin, Union Minister for International Cooperation and Mr Eamon Gilmore (former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland), the European Union’s Special Representative for Human Rights.
The dialogue was also participated by the Myanmar Ambassador to EU and Senior Officials from Ministries concerned from Myanmar, and Mr Ranieri Sabatucci, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Myanmar, Mr Alessandra Schiavo, Ambassador of Italy to Myanmar, Ms Riikka Laatu, Ambassador of Finland to Myanmar, EU Senior Officials and diplomats from some EU member States based in Yangon.
During the dialogue, the two sides exchanged views on a wide range of human rights issues relating to the challenges facing Myanmar in its democratic transition, situation in Rakhine State, progress on implementation of the recommendations of Advisory Commission on Rakhine State, labour rights, rights of women, children and persons with disabilities, business and human rights, freedom of expression, countering hate speech and human rights cooperation in multi-lateral fora as well as fundamental rights and freedoms pertaining to EU’s experience in protection of human rights including migration and asylum issues.
Both sides also discussed the updates on the ongoing GSP engagement between Myanmar and the EU Enhanced EBA monitoring mission and shared the experiences and good practices of other’s measures on the prevention and containment of COVID-19.
