State Counsellor discusses managing market places during COVID-19 period

State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi held a video conference yesterday from the Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw, to discuss managing the market places during the COVID-19 period.


After the introductory remarks by the State Counsellor, Myaing Township Administrative Officer (General Affairs Department) U Thant Zin Khaing discussed arrangement of market stalls for vendors, preparation of quarantine centres and intensive care units, conducting awareness campaigns in his township, making transportation arrangements to send returnees to quarantine centres in their respective villages and making accommodation arrangements for them in a systematic manner. Pyithu Hluttaw MP Daw Pyone Kay Thi Naing from Kalaw Township constituency presented COVID-19 measures at the markets in Kalaw, Heho and Aungban townships and opening temporary market places, the willingness of the people to abide by the health regulations, enforcements of rules and difficulties encountered in managing market places.


Deputy Mayor of Nay Pyi Taw Council Area U Ye Min Oo briefed on the systematic management on operating markets in the capital territory, the conduct of awareness campaigns for the sellers and shoppers, disinfection works, regular cleaning activities and systematic promotion of mobile vendors. In her response, the State Counsellor gave advice on skill-buildings for volunteers, mandatory wearing of face masks for the public, pragmatic ways of adapting to the new way of living in homes and schools (for the short-term as well as for the long-term), and measures for preventing COVID-19.

 

In her concluding remarks the State Counsellor said she wanted everyone to think of pragmatic ways to adapt to a new way of living for the long-term; those new ways could be found from experiences; endurance was the main factor to enter a long-term battle; to have endurance hope was essential; in the same way, determination and unflagging zeal was also needed; hope and hard work was also required; for the fulfill ment of one’s aspirations strenuous efforts were needed; endurance and the courage to carry on was also needed. She added that in her opinion, the people already had the above-mentioned qualities to a certain extent and that she would like to request the people to train and upgrade these qualities from day by day.
