A ceremony to present cash assistance to the elderly people and disabled persons was held in the compound of a monastery in Thazi Village, Salin Township in Magway Region on Saturday.
The event was organized by the Department of Social Welfare under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement. Speaking on the occasion, Director-General of the Department of Social Welfare Dr. San San Aye said that the government has been providing cash assistance to not only the senior citizens above 85 years old but also the disabled people under its social pension programme. The Lower House MP for Salin Constituency U Win Maung also gave a speech.
Next, the director-general of the Department of Social Welfare presented cash for 1,138 elderly people and 560 persons with disabilities. The cash contributed to the senior citizens and the disabled people during the ceremony amounted to more than Ks. 54 million.
The ceremony was also attended by the regional lawmakers, Township Administrator U Hein Hset, departmental staff and local people.—Ye Win Naing (NyaungU)
