Union Minister for Education meets Kachin State basic education personnel

Union Minister for Education Dr. Myo Thein Gyi together with Kachin State Minister for Social Affairs U Nay Win and Department of Technical and Vocational Education and Training Deputy Director General Dr. Nay Myo Tun met with Kachin State basic education personnel at Kachin State Putao District head of administration office hall on 18 March.

In his opening address the Union Minister said the ministry was striving towards all school-age children to attend school and prioritizing education development in regions where transportation was difficult. Education personnel were urged to cooperate with relevant government organisations toward all school-age children to attend school, remain in school, continue education and teach the students patiently. Students who had completed Grade-3 must be able to read and write Myanmar language and conduct mathematic calculation. The teaching method must encourage a discerning mind as well as instill a desire for continuous learning. School development funds were to be used together with parents-teachers association transparently and effectively according to financial and auditing procedures. Township Education heads must carefully study and fulfill the requirements of the schools and difficulties faced by the teachers. In-school sports competitions, maintaining and developing ethnic literature and culture need to be conducted more while libraries were to be supported. Teachers play an important role in raising the education quality. Only qualified teachers were to be employed under a fair and competitive system. The ministry was also ensuring the full provision of salary, daily and travel allowances for teachers, provision of text books and teaching aids in a timely manner and conducting summer training courses for teachers to start using new text books in Grade-3 and Grade-6 said the Union Minister.

Next Kachin State Minister for Social Affairs U Nay Win discussed about education status in far and remote Khaunglanphu region and fulfilling requirements in education.

The Union Minister then responded to questions raised by teachers and coordinated on the discussions made.

Afterwards the Union Minister handed over text books to Khaunglanphu Township Education Head. The meeting was attended by Kachin State, district/township education heads, schoolmaster/mistress, teachers and relevant officials.—MNA
