Well-wishers continue donations to COVID-19 central committee

Company, organizations and individual donors contributed cash assistances and medical supplies to the National Central Committee on COVID-19 Prevention, Containment and Treatment at the Ministry of Health and Sports in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

On behalf of the donors, a representative from Novartis Pharma Services said COVID-19 was somewhat contained in the country with the cooperation among government, private and public.

The well-wishers have contributed donations to help the coronavirus containment processes, the representative said.

Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr Myint Htwe, in his capacity as secretary (2) of the central committee, said although the coronavirus was contained to some extent in the country, it should not be careless.

Most of the confirmed cases in the country are those who returned from foreign countries. Therefore, it is important to abide by the travel restriction rules.

The donations are not only beneficial for the COVID-19 patients at present but also investments for the betterment of long-term health care system, he added.

The Union Minster, Deputy Minister Dr Mya Lay Sein, Permanent Secretary Prof. Dr Thet Khaing Win and Director-General of the Union Minister’s Office Dr Tha Tun Kyaw accepted the donations, and returned certificates of honour to the donors.

Novartis Pharma Services donated US$ 210,000 worth of 7,827 SARS-COV 2 test kits and 2,496 PPE sets, Unilever EAC Myanmar Co., Ltd $3,280 worth of 2,880 2019-nCov Nucleic acid Diagnostic kits, ASA microfinance (Myanmar) Limited (Mingaladon) K 7 million, People’s Party 50 PPE sets and 5,000 masks, and Tharaphu Soe Myint Co., Ltd K 5 million worth of PPE, N95 masks, hand gel and hand spray.

Alumni of the deputy heads’ management course (3/2019) of Central Institute of Civil Service (Lower Myanmar) donated K 1.1 million, Myanmar Veterinary Association-Central (2019-2021) K 1 million, seamen from MT, Royal Peridot (2020), Norstar Ship Management PTE Ltd K 4.533 million, public donors K 2.7 million, natives of Nyaunglebin (Yangon) K 1.25 million, sub-inspector course (9/84) social welfare organization K 1 million, and Myanmar Royal Golden Elephant Co., Ltd K 960,000 worth of 9,600 face masks.—MNA (Translated by Kyaw Zin Tun)
