The US state of Hawaii says it will start easing quarantine requirements for visitors from Japan that are currently being imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Hawaiian government announced on Tuesday that it will no longer demand 14-day self-imposed quarantines for people who pre-test negative for COVID-19 at institutions that meet state standards.
The new standards will take effect as early as November 6.
People in Hawaii say they're hopeful the move will prompt a gradual increase in tourists from Japan.
Japan's health ministry says people arriving from Hawaii will still be required to undergo testing for the coronavirus. They will also be asked to stay home or at hotels and other designated locations for two weeks.
