THE Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the United Arab Emirates(UAE), desirous of establishing friendly ties and cooperation guided by the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and the norms of International Law in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, have established diplomatic relations at the level of Ambassadors with effect from 9 November 2020.


The Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations was signed by Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun, Permanent Representative of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to the United Nations and Ambassador Ms. Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations in New York, on 9 November 2020 at the Permanent Mission of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations. The agreement to establish diplomatic relations between Myanmar and the UAE was approved by the Fourth Regular Session of the first term of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw held on 17 July 2012.


The United Arab Emirates is the 125 country with which Myanmar has established diplomatic relations. The UAE has already established diplomatic relations with all the ASEAN member states.
