The Associated Meetings of 38th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting – 17th ASEAN+3 Meeting, 4th ASEAN-IRENA Meeting and 14th East Asia Summit Energy Ministers Meeting (EAS-EMM) – were held virtually by rotating host Viet Nam yesterday.
Union Minister for Electricity and Energy U Win Khaing participated in the meetings via videoconference from Nay Pyi Taw.
The 17th ASEAN+3 Meeting was participated by energy ministers and deputy ministers from ASEAN countries and the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Korea and Japan, and representatives from the Office of the Secretary-General of ASEAN and ASEAN Centre for Energy.
The meeting discussed technical assistance and capacity development programme relating to energy security and energy efficiency and conservation and cooperation on the energy sector for post-COVID economic recovery.
The 4th ASEAN-IRENA Meeting was attended by ASEAN energy ministers and Director-General of International Renewable Energy Agency Mr Francesco La Camera.
They discussed matters relating to the implementation of technical and financial assistance during 2019-2020 for increasing the use of renewable energy and new energies in accordance with the MoU signed by ASEAN countries and IRENA, and prioritized tasks for 2020-2021.
The 14th East Asia Summit Energy Ministers Meeting was joined by energy ministers and representatives from ASEAN countries, and Asian nations the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, the United States, Australia and India.
They discussed matters relating to cooperation between Asian countries sustainable development, adopting practical policies for responding COVID-19 impacts by the energy sector, implementation of ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation-APAEC Phase II (2021-2025), producing stable and clean energies, and technical and investment cooperation on building a low carbon society.
Union Minister U Win Khaing and party participated in the 38th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting and Associated Meetings on 19 and 20 November.
The meetings approved ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation Phase II (2021-2025) and discussed matters relating to the development of oil and natural gas, cross-border electricity trade, saving energy, effective use of energy, clean coal technology development, human resource development for civil use of nuclear energy, renewable energy development and reducing carbon emissions, regional economic recovery in post-COVID, production of clean energy, creating job opportunities and energy security.
