Surprise checks will be conducted to put an end up to unlicensed tour guides, according to Mandalay Tour Guides Association.
The check aims at guarding against opportunities of licensed tour guides and proper development of the tourism industry.
“To end tour guides without licenses, surprise checks will be undertaken. In addition, signboards will be put to prohibit using tour guides without licenses to travelers. The Department of Hotels and Tourism will take disciplinary action against those who are hiring unlicensed tour guides”, said U Win Zaw Oo, chairman of the Mandalay Tour Guides Association.
In addition, weekly campaigns against tour guides without licenses will be jointly conducted by the Mandalay Tour Guides Association, the Department of Hotels and Tourism, the Tourism Industry and Myanmar Police Force.
In Mandalay Region, there are over 700 tour guides with licenses, according to the association.
